Abandoned third pair for my ex

I’ll do my best not to project I guess  jk

So I wanted to do an oxford instead of a derby, a Cuban heel, and welting all the way around with a stitchdown. Lolsob, as I have mentioned before, I believe this was bad insoling leather for the purpose (others have tried using this material for the same purpose and also failed, is why I say it isn’t just me).

I also fucked up the pattern by trying to scoot something farther up the cone and that should theoretically be a problem leaving some wrinkle or bubble around the bottom of the facings, but I haven’t been able to tell because I haven’t gotten it on that far.

Anyway I guess enjoy the broguing and color choices and stuff. I still want to figure out a way to finish them.

These remind me of those little Valentine’s heart candies that came in paper boxes, looked like pure sugar, and tasted like compressed chalk.

That is truly some powerful broguing. You should really find a last for these.

Oh, they are on lasts, that’s how I know I fucked up by moving the vamp point! I actually have ~85% the holes punched in the holdfast from that awl pliers Lisa used to sell (I think she now sells a bench mounted curved punch by the same maker?), but not all the way through the lining, stiffener, and upper. These are the shoes I was saying were from the wrong, very stubborn and hard insoles.

I also thought it would be fun to have welt all the way around including the heel lol what was I even thinking.

You’ve inspired me to revisit this, because I am better armed than the last time I attempted this:

  • Stropping block actually works for me now, if these awls need their tips gently sharpened
  • I got a slightly differently tipped curved awl to see if the lining and upper cuts easier with that than the flat one (trying to go back through the holes with the awl pliers isn’t actually easy and i’m afraid shit would wiggle around)
  • I have a curved jerk needle/awl thing if I have trouble getting the hole all the way through and need to finish it and go in from the outside (I presumably could have figured this out with the curved tip on my Speedy Stitcher with time)
  • I have different kinds of needles now (I had curved ones that were a bit large, I have smaller ones and also the thin bristle needles)
