Had to Restore From Backup

Shoe Friends:

I’m terribly sorry to say that the forum managed to corrupt its database while trying to update software yesterday. I’ve had to restore it from a backup made a day earlier. As a result, the most recent handful of posts have been lost.

This makes me particularly sad, because we had some great posts yesterday! I am also, of course, a bit worried about what’s going on with the software. In all my years of running forums with Discourse, I’ve never had that kind of problem.

I am looking into it. I’m sorry this happened, and don’t want it to happen again!

Thanks, @thenewreligion. I haven’t entirely pinned down what happened yet, but part of it was clearly a stroke of really unlucky timing, leading to a corruption of the database that holds all the forum data. Other things went wrong to open the window for that to happen, but evil stars aligned.

I’ve just made a new, current backup of the forum. I’m about to try upgrading the software again.
