I’m sorry to learn that. I will update the wiki.
I don’t have much about Mariano. Do you have other information I can add about him?

Sorry I don’t know much outside of what is on his website. I learned of his death through social media posts:

Thanks. I just added those IG posts as remembrances on his wiki page.
I also made sure the Internet Archive has his current webpage.
A fondly remembered maker, for sure.
Olive laces aren’t doing it for me, so making some kakishibu dyed kangaroo laces to go with the boots, with an alkaline shift to darken them for some contrast.
Got a little wear on them now?
Done 3 or 4 days of wear so far. They really dont need much breaking in, but have found a few changes I want to make to the last. My medial arch support is starting a little too far back, so I could feel pressure from the insole rising. That’s largely gone away as the insoles have been breaking in, but it’s an easy thing to correct.
I wish I had done a structured toe. The toe box collapse works better on the horsebutt pair that rolls vs the kangaroo that creases a bit more. Next rouns of the kangaroo boots will get a structured toe and possibly side reinforcements.
Is the welt from the horween horsebutt strips? If so is it soft or hard rolled?
I got to visit tannery row for the first time this weekend and it was amazing! I got a soft rolled strip to try using in counters and toe puffs and it skives so easily. The only thing is I have no clue what the stretch direction is for easy lasting. I got the largest piece I could find so I can cut it in any direction. They also have some leather that isn’t listed online. I was intrigued by the Splenda Flex sole leather, sadly the employee didn’t know much about it. He told me he couldn’t tell the difference but it was really obvious to me. It felt similar to some italian soles tanned for handmade shoes. Curious if anyone here has given it a try.
The welts here are made from the soft rolled horse strips, split down to about 3mm thick. The counters are from the hard rolled ones, but may try using the soft rolled ones.
The outsoles are made from the spelnda outsoles from tannery row, but I don’t recall them being a flex insole material. May be the same though.
