A friend sent me this post about a local Bay Area shoe repair shop seeking an apprentice.
I’m not personally familiar with the shop, but thought I’d better repost!
My medium sized Massachusetts city has two small shoe repair shops remaining. Both run by older guys rapidly approaching retirement age. Neither, as far as I know, has any plan in place for who will take over the business when they retire. Both do a very steady business, with shelves full of shoes, boots, and bags being repaired.
I’m predicting within 5 years there will be nobody doing shoe repairs in the entire central Massachusetts area, unless someone takes over, or opens up their own shop. Whoever remains to offer shoe repair services will have cornered the market in an area with a population of several million people.
