Pair 5: Mulligan Derby Boots

I’ve done the wax and solvent combined over low heat before is pretty straightforward just need to play with the ratios to get the spreadability and finish you want. Beeswax with a variable small amount of carnauba for shine works well. Tried a few solvents and liked limonene, a less volatile and noxious turpene and smells like orange peels. Available as a cleaning product like Nature’s Orange

Brian the Bootmaker did a new YouTube short yesterday. It starts about heel shape but goes on to cover his “natural”, wax-only finish. I can’t tell exactly what kind of wax he uses, but he crayons it on and takes it to a buffing wheel. Looks great. Darkens a bit under friction.

It’s hard to show in a photo, but I’ve noticed the color I got applying Fiebing’s 228 bottom stain from Panhandle turned out rather pinkish. Moreso than golden.

Has anyone else tried Fiebing’s 228? How would you describe the color?
