I finally got around to lasting these today.
I tried first on the School Style-lasting jack I built. Alas, I ended up bringing everything back inside and lap lasting again. I don’t know if it was just unfamiliarity, but I found I really missed being able to turn the boot in my lap, rather than turn my whole body, and especially the ease with which I can flip a boot over and check the top side from my lap.
I know for sure that I made my jack still too tall. I’ll shorten it again and give another try.
As for the pair, the big stack-up of lining, upper, sewn-in counter, and heel counter cover definitively made a huge stack coming over the featherline around the heel seat. I’ve got them lasted, but they are not terribly well pinned down around that edge. I am planning to back around, set staples, and lift the tacks, as I usually do. I’ll be using that opportunity to push the upper flush to the insole with the staple gun. I’ll also plan to use longer stables through the seat. Wish me luck.
